Vacation Homes in the Mountains

Finding a good summer vacation home can be tricky. Here are some things to look for when trying to find a summer rental home.

I think the best way to enjoy the summer is to put the car away.  Look for a town of city that is pedestrian friendly or has a great public transit system.  Then, make sure that your list of possible rental homes has a location that takes advantage of the public transit system or is located in a place you can walk everywhere.  I’m telling you there is nothing better than not having to drive for a few months.

Next, make sure your vacation rental has the ammenities that you will need.  It is suprising, but sometimes these rentals just take advantage of their location and they do not even offer laundry or parking.

The local events may be another thing to look into.  Check the local papers and find out how much activity is going on in that town or city.  If you are going on vacation for the whole summer it may get boring at times, so try to get familiar with the activities in your area.  I know in Vai, CO there are weekly events that are lots of fun, and typically they are free too!  I have also seen lots of Vail Vacation Homes that will have lots of information waiting for you when you arrive.  It is good to do the research, becasue lots of times the best activities are anly known by the locals, which brings me to the next point. Meet some locals so they can give you the best tips on what to do and where to eat.  They are always the best resource.

Rental Homes in Avon, CO are a good example of rentals that offer great location, public transportation, and reasonable prices.  There are always activities close by and locals are full of helpful knowledge.  Next time you need to take the summer off, try renting a summer vacation home with some of these ideas in mind!

Fascinating Facts On Solar Energy

General June 15th, 2009

Life on earth is fueled by the light and heat from the sun. Approximately, 3850 Zettajoules (ZJ) per year is the total amount of solar energy available to the earth. Though the frequency range is different, the suns energy travels via electromagnetic radiation similar to that of radio waves. Much of this solar energy will be absorbed by the air, mostly turned into heat and light. Solar energy has many advantages over conventional energy. The energy from the sun is free the only expense is from recovering the energy. Recently solar photovoltaic technology is on the rise.

Using solar energy rather than conventional energy is a faster way to recover from the cost. The recovering units don’t have to be connected to natural gas or power grids, they stand alone. Solar enery is unlimited, and it creates no pollution that enters the ground or the air. There are several ways to recover solar energy: Focusing collectors: This has a movable mirror, known as heliostats, is pointed to the sun and can provide a temperature around 4000 degrees C. This is the temperature used for solar furnaces. These furnaces don’t emit any form of pollution, and are now widely used in research labs and industrial facilities.

The heliostats can focus the energy to a boiler that turns water into steam. To generate electricity from solar power, focusing collectors can be used.

Flat plate collectors: These solar panel products can be used in schools and homes to provide heat using water that is heated in pipes. Since they are smaller, they cannot provide much heat as compared to focusing collectors. Solar distillation: Solar distillation is about the same as flat plate collectors but provides distilled water instead of heat.

Water from the ocean is placed in containers of the roof of a house. The sun’s rays heat the water, which begins to evaporate. The vapor condenses on a surface, and is then distilled to produce pure water. Solar electricity: By using focusing collectors and Photovoltaic cells, made of thin pieces of semiconductors, convert radiation from the sun into electricity. Solar energy is non-polluting, and its availability does not depend on supply, demand, or market pricing; it is always free. It is natural and pure. It would provide us with better health. If we all pitch in and work as a team, there are several options we could use to help conserve both our natural and renewable resources.

Solar power is very beneficial, and can also inspire others to use it as well. The cost of solar energy is less than using gas, electricity, or other types of resources for heat. When you use electricity and gas you may have a low cost up front but in the end you end up paying for it from now on. With solar power you may have an initial investment to turning your home into solar power but after that you have no reason to pay for it any further, unless you use electric or gas for a back up heating source. Solar power has been availabile in the past, is available now, and barring disaster, should be available for a very long time to come.
