Getting Rid Of Acne

July 9th, 2009

Acne control usually takes the form of topical application products containing benzoyl peroxide. The problem is that this compound can be a major skin irritant. Peroxide is an oxidant that can damage healthy skin tissue.  You will find many acne treatments within this article.

Though such applications are very effective in severe acne control, the user should weight the pros and cons of using benzoyl peroxide-based products carefully before actually prescribing them. It is best to consult a dermatologist for this.

Many dermatologists also favor tretinoin, since it has a dermabrasive (i.e. skin peeling) effect. This causes the skin’s pores to decongest. Invariably, tretinoin aggravates the acne before it begins to clear it up. Some unpleasant side effects like temporary pigment changes and flushing, stinging, swelling and scaling of skin can also occur with trenitoin.

This are expected side effects and there is no call for panic unless the symptoms do not go away. Tretinoin-based acne control products are available in the form of gels, lotions and creams for topical application. Using them regularly can produce favorable results in less than a month. Tretinoin treatment is for a medically specified period only. Its use should not extend beyond this period.

Acne light treatment: In acne light treatment intense blue light or red light is used to irradiate the affected area. The irradiation generates free radicals in porphyrins of the bacteria, which kills the bacteria. If the affected area is pretreated with delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) the results of acne light treatment are enhanced further.

This is because ALA increases the levels of porphyrins in the bacteria. Acne light treatment is considered the best acne treatment because it has a success rate of almost 75%, has no side effects and the chances of the bacteria developing resistance is remote. Acne light treatment takes about 2 to 3 months.

Antibacterial pimples treatments: The most popular pimples treatment is benzoyl peroxide treatment. Benzoyl peroxide is an anti bacterial and kills the pimples bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide is considered the best over the counter acne product.

Antibiotic pimples treatments: For severe pimples usually antibiotic pimples treatment is prescribed. However antibiotics have effectiveness for a limited period only of about 3 to 6 months.

Top 5 Questions Asked Before Starting Driving Lessons

July 9th, 2009

When you wish to start learning to drive in the UK, you are bound to have a lot of questions. Here are the top 5 questions new learner drivers tend to ask.

1. What do I need to do before I can start driving?
You must have a Provisional driving Licence. You can obtain this by completing the driving licence application form D1 and photo card application form D750 which are available from most post offices.

2. How often should I have my driving lessons?
As often as you can afford if you wish to pass the driving test quickly. It is recommended though that you have at least 1 session of 1.5 hours per week of regular training. Driving instructors will structure your driving lessons to suit your individual needs. This can often depend on what time you have available and how often you can afford to take lessons.

3. What is the cheapest way of booking my driving lessons?
You can reduce the cost of learning to drive by taking advantage of block booking discounts which most driving schools will offer. Paying for each individual lesson is the most expensive way to learn to drive.  You can often obtain discounts by paying for as little as five lessons in advance there are many driving schools that offer this.

4. How many driving lessons will I need to take?
Every driver is different and will learn at a different pace. The DSA (Driving Standards Agency) mention that those who have passed their driving test have had an average of 45 hours professional tuition and 22 hours of private practice. Your driving instructor should use the DSA driver record so that you can see your strengths & weaknesses and monitor your progress.

5. Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start my driving lessons?
Not at all. In fact it is a good idea to learn the theory whilst you are learning the practical side of driving as it can bring the subject alive making it easier to understand and remember. Also, remember that the theory training will help your practical driving and the practical driving will help your theory training.

You can find answers to many more questions you may have or even ask questions at the Driving Knowledge Base / FAQs.

Contact Lenses

July 9th, 2009

Many people wear contact lenses. Contact lenses are a way for people who regularly wear glasses to be free of the glasses and still see just as well, if not better, than with their glasses. Many years ago, contact lenses were hard and uncomfortable, often popping out unexpectedly and landing on the floor, much to the dismay of the wearer. But, times have changed. Fashion Contact Lenses have become comfortable to wear, and available even as bifocals or for people with astigmatism.

Contact lenses are even available in a variety of colors, for those who wish to see themselves with a different eye color than they were born with. These coloured contact lenses can be made for the wearer’s prescription just as regular contact lenses are.

Cheap Contact lenses are available from a person’s optometrist or ophthalmologist’s office, or to save money, prescriptions can be taken to a Target or Walmart store or ordered from one of many online suppliers. Be sure to check carefully before ordering online, to make sure the supply house you ordered from is legitimate. The Better Business Bureau has a list of real companies, so you can check their website www.bbb.org before placing any online or telephone orders.

The contact lens wearer should be aware of some important things about contact lens use. Contacts need to be cleaned with a cleaning solution, and should not be worn overnight. The eye needs oxygen, so lenses should not be kept in the eye over an entire 24 hour period. Eyes that are deprived of oxygen for too long can get infected, and the vessels in the eye can swell for lack of oxygen. This swelling can lead to permanent eye problems. So, be sure to clean the lenses regularly, and let the eye rest during sleep.

Besides oxygen, the eye needs moisture. Modern contact lenses are designed to act like sponges, retaining essential moisture in the eye. Still, the contact lens wearer may experience dryness from staring at a computer screen, working in air conditioned places, or strain from reading. There are many eye drop products that can help moisturize the eye while wearing contact lenses in these situations.

There are different types of contact lenses. Extended wear lenses can be used for a long time with regular cleaning and daytime only use. Disposable lenses are thinner and therefore more comfortable, but accumulate dirt particles quicker and tear more easily. They are designed to last for 2 weeks and then be replaced with a new, clean pair. They are cheaper than extended wear, which need to be replaced every 3-6 months. The most recently developed lenses have very high water content, allowing for longer more comfortable wear. Still, cleaning is essential to avoid infection.

If your eyes do become very irritated or infected while wearing contact lenses, give your eyes a few days to rest, and throw away your lenses to avoid re-infecting the eye. It may be necessary to see your ophthalmologist for some antibiotic drops. Contact lenses can be enjoyable and freeing to wear, when done responsibly for the eye health of the wearer.
