Just Got Back From Buying A Classic Mustang
General July 28th, 2009
Well, I haven’t much gotten to speak on this blog half as much as I had expected, owing to all the time I have been roped into helping my pops fuel his incredibly wacky midlife crisis. Okay, I guess it’s not as far gone as it might be. How it went, I mean the way he played it out was to go and dress himself up like fonzie, and storm over to my house and tell me, in his hippest dialect: “Put some shades on, boy, you and I are out cruising for some classic Mustang sales. That’s right, brother, I’m going to buy one.”
Next thing I know him and me were hopping around to all of those wild classic car places that most people are just about convinced are not exactly legit, and I see the old man cut a check right there on the spot, for an unnaturally gleaming classic mustang. It really is one hell of a item. It sounded really nice as well.
I want to point out that I wrote that in the past tense. It sounded perfect for a short time, at which point it seized up completely. My pops tells me that it is just a quick thing to fix and he just needs to find the right part. Of course, it can’t possibly be as straightforward to pick up 1967 Mustang parts as it was like a million years ago, but he informs me there is a pretty sizable aftermarket for them still. As far as my Dad tells me the best place to find parts for 1968 Mustangs is by way of web auctions, because you can get them rebuilt and often even brand new. They might not be available for a nominal fee, though… Get real, we’re talking about half-century old automobile parts.
Not as bad as some midlife crises, I suppose. It would’ve been worse if he’d bought a harley.
