Sofa Beds To The Rescue
General September 1st, 2010
So you have guests coming but no spare bedroom to sleep them, a sofa bed could be the answer without losing your living space. You can get a sofa bed in pretty much any style and design that you want and in addition they can come as pull out or fold down types that create beds to suit your needs. A day bed can also be useful as it is both a bed and a sofa that needs no folding or preparation and offers a regular mattress to sleep on providing a higher level of comfort.
In addition to the space saving benefits of having a sofa bed many young people like to have one in their rooms to allow flexibility of having a sitting room or lounge style room rather than a traditional bedroom. Indeed even in dorm rooms where space is not neccessarily an issue sofa beds are used to allow students to have a space that is a little more relaxed than a sleeping room.
Things have changed in the sofa bed world over time. In the beginning the only ones easily available were very bulky and uncomfortable sofas, however, as time has passed designers have become more creative in designing Sofa Beds that are beautiful and functional at the same time. Some modern sofa beds are all leather and very plush and comfortable and futons, once considered to be worthy only for dorm rooms have found homes in living rooms across the world because of new looks and styles that make them appealing.
It is not all good news with Sofa Beds as they do have some problems. Pull out sofa beds often have inferior mattresses and guests find that they are laying on the metal support bar that keeps the bed from collapsing. As irritating as this potential problem can be it is easily overcome by the purchase of a sofabed replacement mattress or seeking out a high quality bed at the time of purchase. A fold out sofa has the misfortune of having a split in the mattress which will usually involve a seam where there really shouldn’t be one, this can be corrected, however with a mattress topper that lays over the whole couch when it is in its bed condition. Although daybeds serve as sofabeds they actually work much better as a bed than a sofa so are often only used in childrens rooms or guest rooms and rarely in living spaces.
Sofa Beds For Sleeping – Sofa Beds For Sitting
When buying a sofa bed there is often a payoff between seating and sleeping in terms of comfort, the more comfortable the seating, the less comfortable the sleeping and vice versa, the quality of the bed will affect this ratio as well but as a rule of thumb it works. Do not be afraid when buying a sofabed to have the bed part out and try it out for size, you will be spending a chunk of money on this and it is wise to know what you are buying.
